CASE STUDY #1. A large automotive component manufacturing plant had several large parts washing stations throughout the plant where machined parts were cleaned to remove machining and stamping oils, grease, metal fines and general shop soils. For years they had been using Mineral Spirits, Perchloroethylene and Xylene to clean their parts. All parts had to pass a rigorous cleaning test before they could be further processed. Plant management decided that the inherent risks of continued use of these dangerous solvents were no longer acceptable. The known risks included flammability, health hazards and hazardous waste disposal. Prosco was ask to work on a replacement cleaner which would eliminate the above hazards but still pass their tough cleaning standards. In short, we developed a water-based cleaner that not only passed their tough cleaning spec. it was also totaly non-hazardous, pH neutral and less expensive than the solvents it replaced. CASE STUDY #2. A manufacturing plant operated a large steam boiler used in plant processing. Originally, their boiler room had a mixing station where they mixed 3 different boiler products to feed the completed product directly into their feedwater tank. The main problem with this set-up was the mixture constantly changed because of different boiler readings which called for different proportions of the 3 individual chemicals. Also, it was impossible for this customer to keep the proper amount of chemical in balance which would keep the boiler from scaling. Prosco's recommendation was to start to feed an all-in-one boiler treatment compound which we custom blended specifically for this customer based on their unique needs. Result: consistent chemical levels, time saved by no longer having to custom mix products and cost savings to boot! | | |
